Using “GPT” AI in the Practice of LawThe Use of AI in the Legal Profession A Discussion Around how AI is impacting the Legal Profession

Using “GPT” AI in the Practice of Law

Large language models, or “LLMs,” are nothing new. For years, legal professionals have been using this type of AI to find cases and locate documents that traditional keyword and Boolean searches miss. But recent advancements in this LLM technology known as generative pre-trained transformers, or “GPTs,” have improved these already-powerful tools. And the secret is out. There are countless bots and other applications available for various general and specific uses, including for the practice of law. This CLE presentation introduces today’s new AI technology, and specifically explains its usefulness for the practice of law.

This presentation is intended for licensed and unlicensed legal professionals and covers the following:

  1. Provide a short review of prior LLM AI technology
  2. Explain why GPT AI is different and more powerful
  3. Distinguish different kinds of AI available today
  4. Demonstrate real, trustworthy use cases, like legal research, reviewing documents, analyzing contracts, and more

Alta Pro applies directly for approval of its webinars in the following states: CO, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, MI (Michigan Indigent Defense Commission credit), MN, NC, SC, OH, PA, TN, TX and WI. In almost all cases, given that our webinars are always approved in the above 14 CLE states, lawyers who are licensed in any other US state will also be able to receive credit for attending our webinars. Certain states, known as reciprocal states, will simply accept the approval from any of the above states, as if the program was approved in their state (i.e., AZ, CA, CT, FL, NJ, NY among others). Other states require that the lawyer submit an application for approval. While we do not apply in every state, our CLE coordinator will assist any attendee with the application process.
