Attorney Malpractice—6 FL Attorneys arrested 2 plead guilty to Insurance Fraud

According to Insurance Business, 6 Florida attorneys were arrested in September for participating in kickback schemes to defraud insurance companies.  They were accused of paying for referrals from tow truck drivers, auto repair employees and other people with access to collision reports.  The attorneys were alleged to have used these referrals to make fraudulent motor vehicle tort and personal injury claims.

Florida attorney Steve E Slootsky plead guilty to 15 felony counts and has agreed to pay restitution to the insurance companies over $170,000.  The 15 felony counts could cost Slootsky up to 5 years in prison.

Florida attorney Vincent Pravato plead guilty to communications fraud, unlawful use of a two-way communications device and patient brokering and has also agreed to pay restitution.
