A recent Better Business Bureau (BBB) study found that half of all small businesses would not be profitable if they lost critical data for more than 30 days. And while 81% use antivirus software and 76% have a firewall, most are lacking in the most cost effective prevention tool; employee education.
The BBB report focuses on
a. Cyber Security standards—a voluntary standard from the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) is becoming mandatory for some businesses as vendors require it
b. Cost-Benefit Analysis—It makes no sense to implement a cybersecurity policy or procedure that costs more than the benefit
c. Best Practices—Small Business need to adopt best practices to prevent data breaches and cyber attacks
